I have a backpack that is stocked with my diaper supplies. It will hang on the door stall hook and I can get my supplies out without it touching the floor. If in a family restroom I fold the changing table down and use it as a counter. As long as I have been in diapers, nothing bothers me. I no longer worry about people hearing diaper tapes or seeing me tossing out a used diaper. Incontinence was in the cards I am dealt and I accept it and move on.

I carry all my changing supplies in a medium size gym bag. I keep it handy in my car when I travel, and do not hesitate to get it out when I need it.

I'm new to diapers, too. In the past month I've been wearing them fulltime I've devised various strategies to deal with changing away from home.

When I traveling in our truck I keep a full array of diapers, wipes, tissues and powder on board. Since I'm handicapped I use a scooter when I leave the truck and I carry a minimum of a diaper, wipes and tissues in the pouch on the back of the seat.

While traveling in our truck I also have a soft-sided Coke cooler that duplicates the supplies in our truck for going into motels, etc. It avoids loading up our suitcases with my diapering needs.

Finally when I must I pack my diapers and supplies in our suitcases, but when traveling by air I always have an emergency diaper, etc, in my carry-on.

As I said I'm new to diapers and hope I have all the bases covered. Time will tell.

I use a backpack too, with some plastic bags inside. If I have to change I will put the old diaper in a bag and put it back in the backpack until I can get rid of it. I am diabetic and also carry my glucometer and other stuff, so I was already using a backpack when I needed a place for my diaper stuff.

Even though I've only begun to wear a diaper full-time, I've learned which places have good restrooms and which don't. Fortunately my errands take me to pretty much the same places from day to day and so I've gotten it down to a routine. I have some diaper disposal bags that my wife got for me that make it a little more discreet when throwing a wet diaper away. Some of my problems and quetsions are how to carry diapers, wipes, disposal bags, and sometimes an extra pair of plastic pants when I'm out and about, especially if I'm on public transit. Right now I'm using a small backpack but am curious to learn how others solve the problem.

Well, Andrewberner, I hope the restrooms at your school at least have doors on the stalls! I've heard that these days a lot of school restrooms lack doors on the stalls and for those of us who have to wear protection, that would be appalling! But assuming you have doors to hide you during a change, it sounds like you've got everything worked out. That's probably the best way to handle things.

craigcscott83,
Will you entertain some additional ideas? After you have decided which restrooms can be made to work for you, arrange an outing around one or more of them, to get an idea of how much freedom you will have. Granted, you do not want to ask a first date to help change you; however, she could drive your van there, or she could park it while you are inside. Arranging one or more itineraries around available, and acceptable, handicapped restroom facilities, and learning traffic patterns and other potential hindrances should an emergency arise, should not be impossible.

craigcscott83,
Have you taken an inventory of handicapped restroom facilities on your usual haunts? Some will be unacceptable; but, with luck, at least a few will have space and accommodations suitable for your needs. Good luck finding them. Keep us informed.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions regarding my specific situation of changing in public restrooms. I am in a wheelchair. I drive and am fairly independent. However, I have not found a good way of adapting to public restrooms and for this reason, do not get out for long periods of time. This specifically stands in the way of having somewhat of a dating life. Does anyone have any suggestions of ways to handle this without having to ask my date to help with such an embarrassing situation?

Halfway On My way back from a delivery I had 3 hours away I stopped by to get a lunch and change my depends underwear for men, I noticed in the bathroom garbage as I was disposing mine I noticed in the trash was another mens pullup underwear, It reminded me that there are others like us that suffer from incontinence. I usually wear protection when traveling because long drives and too much caffiene beverages and colder weather seem to effect my bladder.

I used to be very self-conscious about changing in public bathrooms; but it got to the point that I realized that unless the guy sitting in the stall next to me is somehow involved in my situation, he really doesn't care what I'm doing or what I'm wearing!

It's not a big deal for me to change in a public restroom. I just pull down my diaper like a pair of underwear and sit on the toilet. Then I spread my knees apart to stretch the diaper. That puts tension on the tapes and cuts down on the noise. I guess it's a little paranoid, but I try to be quiet. The last time I changed at a rest area I was all worried about throwing the used one in the trash can that someone would see me, then when I did I noticed there was another Depends laying right on top. It made me realize a lot more guys are incontinent and wear diapers than I thought.

Timothy,

If anyone ever peeked under a toilet stall door while I was inside, that would be the last time that I ever visited that establishment. In the hundreds, maybe thousands, of times that I've had to change in a public restroom, nothing like that has ever happened.

Ahhhh, while all of this is true and people figure it out. How many of these people will we ever see again? I too, used to worry about these little things including the cracksin the stall doors until someone pointedf this out to me. I have never had anyone come back to me after changing in a restroom (100's of times I guess). Cleanlieness is my biggest concern.
