RE: Focus Groups

The time has arrived.
My Star Diapers arrived yesterday afternoon and I put them through the paces.
They are comfortable and reliable. They lack the waistband but make up for this in performance overall. The absorbancy is supreme and not the slightest leak last night even with my overboard iced tea consumption which was done on purpose for the test.
I'll be using Star Diapers for overnight and long trips which include my caregiver retreat this coming May 15 to Atlantic City New Jersey.
The Depend Maximum has just been transferred to daily use here where my daily wetting needs will be met with their now secondary protection.
The "Brass Tacks" of it are a slightly more expensive diaper for night use but a better night sleep and that is worth the extra cost and less expensive than the next best diaper brand.
I rechecked my choice and the Quality Diapers Site is to date a reputable company for my nightime needs. As Paul Harvey once said :

Focus Groups

Feb 28, 2012 9:35 PM
Maybe 10 years ago (?) I was contacted by a product manufacturer of reusable men's briefs and invited to be a part of a test panel.

I was shipped three briefs to use and was asked to give my feedback on the product.

These were styled after men's briefs and had a fly, thick padding in the crotch and were low-waisted.

I liked the briefs and submitted my comments. And I never heard back from the company.

The brand was "Compose" for men, also marketed as "Intellitecs" by Compose.

I still have several pair marked "Sample" and three or four pair of the Intellitecs. These briefs are similar to the Revelation brief of several years ago.

I much prefer using a cloth product on 'light days'. I don't care too much for the guards, whatever brand, because they 'travel' too much and get all bunched up.

I like Depends underwear.

There is a brand that I also like -- DriBrief which has a heavy terrycloth front panel. I wish the panel would go up the back also.

For now, the criteria I use to purchase disposable products is pricing.

I recall Earl H mentioning that they went up to a 44 waist, so definately adult sizes available. Too steep a pricetag for me to want to try, and I prefer a plain old one colour thanks! Puffy

Thanks for the reply, Robert. I'm curious to try the Wellness diapers, and will one of these days. As for the Star diapers, they seem to be only for kids or small adults. I'm neither, so I guess I won't be trying those anytime soon. ;)

35way,
You are suggesting a focus group. That suggestion has been made many times here over the years. Perhaps, one of these days, someone in authority will see it in KC's best interest to follow up on our requests. Here's hoping...

I read with understanding all the negative comments about the various brands of diapers available today paying close attention because I'm new to the community. In my mind one giant fact stands out like the elephant in the room: why doesn't some mainline adult diaper manufacturer, ...say Depends, ...use a readily available cross-section of diaper wearers, ...say those of us who are members of this forum and who care to participate, ...to first recommend what we need and then 'test drive' samples of experimental products until the most nearly perfect diaper is developed for urinary and/or fecal incontinent customers? To my admittedly simple mind they would then corner the market!

A new philosophy today:
Todays diapers , with very few exceptions, can be compared to politics and industry:
Changes [not that kind] are made only when a issue becomes hot enough in the public eye. The issue is then tossed back and forth for what can be months to years before anything becomes of it. When something is finally done its bound to be just enough to make it look different but be nowhere near what changes were needed to make the product a user needed tool. Even now this "improved" product like the above fixtures may be subject to recall and never make it to the public eye for distribution.
New and improved product?
Only if folks are pointed in the direction of Never Never Land.
Wait a minute, wait a minute !
Never Never Land? Thats a European product. This just might exist for the consumer.

"Why do the manufacturers of diapers seem to put more emphasis on cosmetics, ...ie, colors, etc., ...than adding more padding where we need it for absorbancy?"

I think it's because most manufacturers of store-brand adult diapers (like Depend, etc) are more interested in creating a discreet product than one that actually works. Why else would they be trying to make the diapers look more and more like real underwear, by adding colors, trim fit, etc? This is all well and good, especially for the person who doesn't need round the clock protection, but it seems like those of us who do are looking to alternatives like the super-absorbent European diapers.

Personally, I'd say a thin, leaky diaper is a lot more noticeable than a bulkier one that keeps my pants clean. LOL.

35way,
No, you're not. I'm a skinny runt. I'm just a little too small for the men's s/m briefs, but just a little too big for the GoodNites l/xl. No manufacturer can make a profit with an excess of size ranges, which makes washables attractive. However, I do wish for two or three more sizes, with at least one sized to bridge the gap between the largest GoodNites and the smallest men's briefs.

Why do the manufacturers of diapers seem to put more emphasis on cosmetics, ...ie, colors, etc., ...than adding more padding where we need it for absorbancy? I'm new to wearing diapers, but all of the brands I've either sampled or purchased are too low in front for bladder incontinents and/or too low in back for fecal incontinents like me. Also the elastic around the leg holes on pullups leave a lot to be desired. Or, am I wrong?

I use Abena Abri-Form M4. I've found that they offer excellent, discreet, long-lasting protection. They don't need to be changed as often as store-brand diapers, which is great during a busy work day. Also, I'm a heavy bedwetter, and in the three or four years since I started using them, I've never had any nighttime leakage. I'm a customer for life.

I like wellness briefs. Not too bulky for me even though I usually cut off some of the "wings". Better to have too much than too little. I think they are fine, and I use them overnight frequently.

Hey, Robert. You've said two things that intrigue me. First, you and Earl have both mentioned Star diapers, but that's not a brand I'm familiar with, and Google turns up nothing by that name. Care to clarify?

Second, you said that the Wellness diapers were much-maligned. Actually, I've heard some really good things about them. I've heard they're bulky, but that kind of goes with the territory when dealing with the "super diapers."
